CRASHFEST - Information Text


CRASHFEST is an International Short Film Festival, which is organized for the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Film Department, School of Fine Arts) by Phonema (Non Profit Organisation).

Any person, up to the age of thirty five, can Audiovisual culture and communication is prominent in modern society, especially in between the younger people, who need new ways of experimentation and expression; the CRASHFEST would like to fill those needs.
Among the festival’s aspirations is to create a platform where young people can express their creativity, discuss the issues that preoccupy them and find fellow collaborators.
The Competition Section is international and open to applicants up to the age of thirty five.
The nominee movies are separated in the following four categories:
-          Fiction films
-          Documentary films
-          Animation films &
-          Experimental films (Video Art etc)
and are competing for one of the following six prices:
-          Best Movie of the Festival
-          Best Student film
-          Best Fiction film
-          Best Documentary
-          Best Animation &
-          Best Experimental Film
Crashfest includes two more sections (apart from the competition ones):
  1. Competitive Script Section. This department refers only to scripts written from Greeks. This is due to the fact that the prize is given from the Greek Film Center (GFC) and concerns financing its production.
  2. Competitive TV Spot Section (Theme : Advertising Crashfest)
The nominee TV Spots competing for the Best TV Spot.

The Jury are well-known Filmmakers and Artists from Greece and from abroad.
Sense 2006  five consecoutive Crashfests took place in Thessaloniki
CRASHFEST takes place in April or May and each of the five previous Crashfests screened an average of 90 films.
The 6th Crashfest will take place in Thessaloniki, Greece, 27-28-29 May, 2011.
